Tye-Die is one of the main characters in a personal project I am working on called "Twisted Luck."
After getting banished from the Heavens and to the land of mortals, He manages to become Jasmine's Fairy Godparent after years of struggling to find a vessel. He seems friendly at first, however, he is extremely vague whenever his past is mentioned. Soon, Jasmine learns the horrifying truth behind his exile and why he kept it a secret.
In the world of Twisted Luck, fairies are heavenly beings that come in many shapes and sizes. They gain power by bettering the lives of the misfortunate. If a human has suffered terribly, there is a chance a fairy will get assigned to them and form a spiritual link called a Vessel. When a human and Fairy form a vessel, the fairy becomes a Godparent and the human can wish for almost anything from them. A Vessel is an unbreakable bond that lasts for life. It is only destroyed when the human passes away. Fairies are a rare species since only one is born every 100 years give or take. Thus, only a few humans can be chosen to be a Vessel.
Even though Tye-Die was weakened, stripped of his wings, corrupted, and banished, he still has the soul of a fairy. With the little power he had, he managed to convince Jasmine to form a Vessel with him, beginning their lifelong relationship.

Originally, Tye-Die was going to be a rat monster with the letter 'A' on his chest as a tag. The reason for this is he was corrupted by the Gods and transformed into a rat as an insult. This was changed for 3 reasons:
1. The Gods see all life as precious, so it wouldn't make sense for them to see rats as an insult. Plus, it seemed petty.
2. I wanted Tye-Die to be more intimidating and it was hard to
Tye-Die's updated look still has many of his original features. The biggest change was his body structure. Since his body is corrupted, I wanted him to look like a combination of many animals instead of just one. He now has a more predatory frame, reminiscent of bears and big cats. His tail, ears, and snout are still rat-like. For consistency, I made his back paws the same color as his body and ch
Tye-Die's appearance changes depending on the season. In the summer, the fur on his tail falls off, revealing his colorful, bald tail. The "If Only" coat is what he could look like if he wasn't corrupted. This version can be seen in dream sequences. His winter coat is a surprise!
Quadrupeds are tricky to model because of all the angles to consider. It didn't help that Tye-Die had a considerably long tail. To make things easier:
- I drew his tail separate from the body so that I can better focus on everything.
- Added a basic green skeleton to help me with joint placement.
- added a thin fur outline to show how thick it should be.
Note: This was made before his fur was updated
Tye-Die if he hadn't been banished and lost his wings and halo in an "if only" scenario. Tye-Die and Jasmine soar through a picturesque sky, enjoying every second.
Consisting of 24.7k triangles and 13.3k vertices, Tye-Die is one of my more advenced models and the fur multiplies the complexity.
Tye-Die rigged and rendered
Here is a short animation featuring Jasmine and Tye-Die! In this project, the characters are played by actors named Amari and Jackal. Of course, they are the same 3D models, I just thought an interview would be a fun way to practice lip syncing.
Animation Note: Because of computer limitations, Tye-Die's (Jackal's) fur morphs a few times. I would iron out these flaws if I could, but it seems to happen when Maya crashes, and I currently can not prevent crashes.
Watch Tye-Die progress from a casual walk to a fast gallop.
An animated display of Tye-Die's various facial expressions and emotions.
Tye-Die sits down, yawns, then stands back up. I decided to get a little creative with the lighting in this showcase animation.
