MONOROK
About
The Monorok is a large and intimidating omnivore that can usually be found roaming deep swamps. It is semi-aquatic and spends the majority of its time soaking its scaly skin in water. Their diet mostly consists of meat, but because of their massive size, they often steal food from other predators because it is easier than chasing it down on their own. When there is no meat to scavenge or hunt, they will resort to eating fruits and berries.
Monoroks are sought after by Pixie hunters because Pixies tend to ride on the backs and fly around Monoroks for protection. Predators won't hunt pixies if they are near a large, scary Monorok. The Monoroks won't eat the pixies because the pixies help remove thorns and parasites from their bodies. They live in a symbiotic relationship. Unfortunately, this has become a problem for both of them because now people are hunting and capturing Monoroks for the pixies.
Elite powers capture and use Monoroks as 'guard beasts' and work animals for their empire. Yet, despite being trained and shackled, Monoroks are never truly "tamed." This leads to many escapes and preventable Monorok attacks. It is common to find Monoroks in the wild that are still wearing their old chains and collars from when they were once imprisoned.
Because of corporate takeover, there aren't many natural places for animals to live. Creatures such as Monoroks roam in small enclosed wildernesses on the outskirts of civilization.
The Monorok was created for a conceptual fantasy game called "Pixie Dust." In this game, pixies are sought after and capture for their power and can be collected by the player. The game is set in a dystopian world.

DESIGNING PROCESS
The Monorok is a large, powerful, and fearsome reptile that runs on 6 legs. To convey its attributes, I drew defined muscles, an aggressive expression with small eyes, and a reflective body (since it is scaly). Its color scheme is dull, which makes the golden chains it sometimes wears pop even more.
This is an updated coloration for the Monorok. The body structure is the same, but its pattern has been changed to something more interesting while still looking natural. It now has subtle stripes across its back, a light tan belly, and a darkened spine and feet.
The Monorok lives in a dystopian fantasy world and are often captured and used as work animals. In the picture, an escaped Monorok gets a drink of water while pixies follow it for protection.
The Monorok was challenging to layout because of its muscular six legs and feet. Using a ruler helped me keep the position of the limbs consistent at each angle.
